What Is MLM

MLM stands for Multi-Level Marketing. It is a business model in which the company finds an affiliate to sell their product to end consumers and the affiliates earn the commission based on the personal sale and they also recruit new members or downlines to the business and new members, in turn, recruit another downline and it goes like a chain process. The affiliates also earn the commission for the indirect sale happened through their recruits.

There is a common misconception about what Multi-Level Marketing is at it’s core. It is almost to be expected for somebody to ask “Is this illegal?” or “Is this a pyramid scheme?” and of course many network marketers are put on the defensive when these questions are asked. But that is because the network marketer and the potential prospect are looking at the business from two completely different angles. The prospect is on the outside looking in and the marketer is on the inside looking out.

This can be likened to being in a pool. The marketer is inside the pool trying to convince the prospect that the water is fine and that it is safe to jump in. The marketer is saying that the opportunity to join them in the pool is amazing! It comes with this benefit, that benefit, and all of these extras! But the prospect outside the pool walks to the edge of the pool, dunks a toe in, and doesn’t jump right in because the water is cold. The marketer, already being in the water, knows that the water is fine; but the prospect, outside of the pool, finds that hard to believe.

While it may seem like there is no middle ground in the matter, here are some facts that can help “warm the water” for the prospect:

Here are some benefits of MLM:

  • Low barrier to entry
  • Almost anyone can get started in the business for a very minimal start-up cost.
  • Basic training is provided by most companies so no prior experience is needed

  • Low risk
  • The cost of staying in business is low due to the lack of a need for a physical location, payroll for employees, and, in most cases, inventory.
  • The business can be run on the phone and computer so it is always within arms reach.

  • Capable of life-changing results
  • There is huge potential income due to the compensation structure. As opposed to being paid on an hourly format, network marketers are paid based on commissions earned through an initial sale and residuals thereafter; so the profit potential is not restricted to just the hours physically worked.
  • The ability to make money while not physically working then allows for time freedom. This free time can be spent however one would like whether it be spending more time with friends and family, investing time in themselves or their business, or going on vacation!
